Pen & Paper: Stance Hoops Enlists Todd Francis for the NBA Legends Collection

On the surface level, a story about socks might not seem that interesting. However, for me this story blends two things I grew up on, basketball and skateboarding. I grew up watching ball with my brother and seeing these featured NBA legends on TV or highlight VHS tapes. I also skateboarded and artist Todd Francis is a legend in his own right when it comes to skateboarding; I mean the guy came up with the Anti-Hero brand logo. I made a couple trips out to his art studio to document the process of creating these socks through my photographs, from the pen on the paper to the finished product. I didn’t mind making the trek across town to his studio as Todd and I got to hang out and talk basketball while I documented his artistic process. Check out a quote from Todd Francis on the project below:

“…I tried to capture each player’s most iconic pose, such as Doctor J’s famous windmill dunk or Rodman’s personalized rebounds, where he would flare his elbows and throw his legs out to clear space, or Dominique’s huge reverse double pump dunk….”
